Maintenance is one of the three modules of the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme.
This accreditation is not seen as a benefit for all operators, but those operators who have vehicles registered in a state which requires annual roadworthy inspections, or have FIRS (Federal Interstate Registration) will gain an exemption from the annual roadworthy requirement due to the maintenance regime required by this accreditation.
Realistically, the accreditation confirms what every operator does, for example:
- Daily Checks
- Fault reporting, recording and repairing
- Regular servicing - grease and adjust brakes (A Service), full service with oil change (B Service) and an annual service replacing belts and other major components (C Service)
It's as simple as that - well, not quite that simple! The difference between what most operators do now and what is required by the accreditation is the dreaded paperwork.
