TruckSafe is an industry-based quality assurance program which has evolved since it first became a concept in the early 1990's under the auspices of the former Road Transport Forum.
The concept was originally trialled with several volunteer transport companies until it was satisfied that the Standards were achievable in the reality of everyday transport activities.
These days TruckSafe is a company wholly owned by the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) based in Canberra, which constantly invests a considerable amount of time, effort and finances in order to represent a united voice for the transport industry when dealing with various government bodies.
TruckSafe's best endorsement is that it is a program developed by transport operators for the use of transport operators
TruckSafe follows best practice principles and is considered to be an effective business and risk management system for transport operators. TruckSafe has recently issued an article outlining the benefits of TruckSafe and associated requirements and costs.
TruckSafe has four accreditation Standards which operators must meet before being accredited:
- Management Responsibility
- Maintenance
- Driver Hours and Driver Health
- Training
Most businesses are already generally meeting the requirements, but TruckSafe systems require that everything is done a little smarter.
